The late Apple's CEO and co-founder, unveiled the first iPhone in 2007 at San Francisco’s MacWorld conference and it has come a long way since then. so lets have a look back at the evolution of the iPhone over the years
Original IPHONE, 2007
The iPhone was the first phone with a completely touch-sensitive screen. With 3.5 inches of display space, the iPhone was the first of its kind to integrate music, a camera and the internet in a phone. Steve Jobs holding the first iPhone. The second-generation iPhone, the iPhone 3G model took care of one of the first things that the original iPhone couldn’t do, which was “download things at anything better than piddling EDGE data rates.” it was only $199 for the 8GB model when it was released in 2008.
IPHONE 3GS, 2009
“The fastest, most powerful iPhone yet” had a 3MP autofocus camera. This was the first time a new colour option of silver was available, and was the first iPhone to have video recording. The 3GS also addressed some of the complaints about battery life and overheating, and was generally the fastest thing on the market.
IPHONE 4, 2010
When the iPhone 4 came out in 2010 Jobs described it as the most beautiful product Apple has ever released. Apple changed its iPhone design to a glass front, and back with a flat, square interior. The iPhone 4 was most iconic for its front-facing camera, which came with the FaceTime Video calling, and a 5MP camera. The iPhone 4 introduced Apple’s vaunted “retina display” technology to the world. it had a slightly different look from the curved shape of the previous devices, thanks to its steel frame that doubled as an antenna.
IPHONE 4S, 2011
The iPhone 4S came with the largest storage space of 64GB. where in Siri was introduced, which is an intelligent voice assistant to the world that’s been growing as a part of Apple’s ecosystem ever since. This was the first time an iPhone was introduced by Apple's CEO Tim Cook on October 4 2011, a day before Steve Jobs died.
IPHONE 5, 2012
The iPhone 5 is the first phone to introduce the lightning connector (replacing the old 30-pin ports on older models). The iPhone 5 had a big change with size increase, from 3.5 inches to 4 inches, creating a room for another row of apps. Despite the increased size, it was thinner and lighter than previous iPhones. This device also came with a new aluminium design and Retina display along with the usual hardware upgrades.
IPHONE 5C, 2013
The iPhone 5C was a step in a relatively new direction for Apple – one toward the non-hyper-premium end of the market. The 5C was packed with a polycarbonate body and thicker construction. The iPhone 5c line had even more colour options of blue, green, yellow, pink and white. The iPhone 5c was designed as Apple’s ‘affordable phone’ to compete with Android. Proposed as a cheaper alternative, the new iPhone 5C was plastic. However, it was still pretty expensive, retailing at £469
The iPhone 5S was the natural progression of the iPhone 5, bringing improved internals, some new exterior finishes, and was the first device to feature Apple’s TouchID fingerprint security scanning technology to access information and unlock an iPhone . Apple redesigned the iconic home button for the first time and the new colour Gold was added to the spectrum of iPhone colours. Apple stuck with its 4-inch design for the iPhone 5S, instead deciding to upgrade the internal specs and bring a new OS to the new device. We’ve also come far from the first iPhone prices – the new 5S was £549 sim-free in the UK
IPHONE 6/6 Plus, 2014
The iPhone 6 headed towards a big design move to compete with Samsung. Until 2014, Apple was the only major smartphone maker to sell smaller – as in, less than 5 inches – flagship phones. iPhone 6 was 4.7" & slimmer, at 6.9mm and the bigger iPhone 6 Plus was 5.5" measuring 7.1mm and Both phones have 1080p screen with all-aluminum design and the power button has moved from the top, to the side.
IPHONE 6S/6S Plus, 2015
The iPhone 6S introduced the latest feature 3D Touch making the touch screen pressure-sensitive & allowing you to press on the display with different amounts of force which would make the OS do different things with the information. And a new Rose Gold version was also released in this year. The 6S and 6S Plus was tangled with most hardware upgrades over the previous models, but at least they conclusively fixed the bending problem.
IPHONE SE, 2016
Similar to the iphone 5, this was meant to be a smaller 4 inch , but still packing in the capacity of the iPhone 6S. Apple designed the SE as the cheaper and smaller alternative to the iPhone 6. the new phone was available from £359 compared to the iPhone 6S, which started from £539
IPHONE 7/7 PLUS, 2016
The latest and greatest iPhones are the 7 and 7 Plus, rolled out on September 2016 . They’re packed with the most up-to-date hardware and software available featuring advanced dual-lens cameras. Apple’s major move was removing the headphone jack to make a way for wireless Bluetooth headphones. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is the first series of Apple phones to not have a headphone jack and be officially water and dust resistant. As well, a jet black and matte colour variant were added to the Apple colour spectrum. The world was not happy when Apple removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices. But an improved battery life and fusion chip, making the device powerful and more efficient did help to shut the annoyance.
So over these Ten years, Apple has sold more than one billion iPhones worldwide. As 2017 is a great year for Apple's new release, Rumours claim a redesign of iPhone 8 with all glass body, no home button, fast & wireless charging support, and more. so We’ll have to wait and see on how apple kicks off the Smartphone world once again.
